Middle School
Teaching the tools for success
Our devoted faculty members provide the structure and support each Middle School student needs to be successful. Students learn to prioritize, take ownership over their learning, and advocate for themselves as they rotate from class to class and teacher to teacher starting in 5th grade. Learning is inquiry-based, encouraging students to be curious about the world around them.
SJRS Middle School prepares students for high school through a rigorous academic program rooted in faith. Literature studies feature classic authors, while writing skills progress from short stories and essays to advanced creative writing and research papers. Math courses span from foundational concepts through Algebra I, with emphasis on problem-solving and logical reasoning. Science rotates through life, earth, and physical sciences with labs, solar car projects, and hands-on experiments. Social Studies includes world history, geography, and a two-year study of American history, culminating in 7th- and 8th-grade living history exhibits.
Middle schoolers also develop through daily French classes. Weekly classes in advanced art projects, general music, as well as chorus and band ensembles expose students to the fine and performing arts. Physical Education and Health emphasize personal fitness, teamwork, and healthy living.
Religion classes and organized community service projects help students deepen their faith, lead in school liturgies, and practice compassion throughout the local community. All students in all grades attend weekly Mass at St. Bernard's Church as well as a prayerful Rosary and Adoration service.
By 8th grade graduation, students are confident learners and leaders, strong in their Catholic faith, and well-prepared for success in high school and beyond.
