MATHCOUNTS
The Math Club is open to all SJRS middle school students and we participate in the MATHCOUNTS Competition Program. Our club meets once per week after school to complete 10 challenging math problems. Meetings begin in October and run until the regional competition in early February.

The Math Club is coached by Andy Cardine, Math faculty member at Our Lady of Mercy Academy. We have two objectives for this club at SJRS:
The first is to show students that math can be FUN! Students don’t have to be math wizards to participate. They just have to do their best and work hard on the problems presented. Students are allowed to work independently or in groups and always have a coach available to assist them.
The second is to prepare for the MATHCOUNTS competitions. Therefore, the students are expected to do their best and work hard on the problems presented.

Our club has been very successful. Our students have been regional finalists in 2010, 2011 and 2012; in 2011, our two regional finalists advanced to the NH state competition; and in 2014, our team finished in 3rd place to advance to states!

MATHCOUNTS is a national enrichment, club and competition program that promotes middle school mathematics achievement through grassroots involvement in every US state and territory. For over 30 years, MATHCOUNTS has been one of the country's largest and most successful education partnerships involving volunteers, educators, industry sponsors and students.
