Religion

All SJRS students, faculty, and staff attend weekly Mass at St. Bernard's Church throughout the school year as well as on Holy Days. Fr. Alan, pastor of the Parish of the Holy Spirit; Fr. Peter, Associate Pastor; along with Monsignor Dan and Deacon Ken, regularly celebrate the Masses and also come to visit with the students in their classrooms from time to time.

Elementary school students develop their love of God, practice compassion and respect for ourselves and others. The Gospel Weeklies curriculum is utilized for the Elementary students, with colorful, fun age-appropriate handouts each week, based on the Sunday readings.
Children who are of the Catholic faith prepare for the Sacrament of Reconciliation, First Communion, and Confirmation through their home parishes.

3rd and 4th Grade religion focuses on how the Commandments help us to love God and how we are called to holiness.

Middle School Religion continues the utilization of Catholic Formation courses designed by William H. Sadlier, Inc.
The We Believe Program for our 5th and 6th graders is centered around the six tasks of catechesis: to LEARN about their faith; CELEBRATE the Mass and sacraments; CHOOSE to show love and respect; PRAY every day; SHARE faith with others; and LIVE out their faith.
5th Grade students focus on studying the people, places, and history of the Old Testament.

6th Grade students are presented with an in depth study on Jesus and the Sacraments.

The 7th and 8th Grade program centers on morality, and how happiness can be achieved while living a moral life with guidance from God, our family, and the Church.

Middle School students also take an active role in our weekly Masses as lectors, cantors, choir members, and altar servers.
