Religion
Saint Joseph Regional School presents the Catholic faith to all students as we encounter God through prayer, His Word, Sacraments, and our classroom studies. Our focus is that each person is a GIFT as seen in Psalm 139:14, “I praise you, because I am wonderfully made.”
Grades K-8 use a curriculum from Sophia Press called Spirit of Truth and a Theology of the Body curriculum from Ruah Woods called Revealed. The lessons and artwork are engaging and beautiful. We also use the New American Bible and the Catechism of the Catholic Church as resources.
All SJRS students, faculty, and staff attend weekly Mass at St. Bernard's Church throughout the school year as well as on Holy Days presided by Fr. Alan, pastor of the Parish of the Holy Spirit and Fr. Peter, Associate Pastor. Middle School students also take an active role in our weekly Masses as lectors, cantors, choir members, and altar servers. Children who are of the Catholic faith prepare for the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Eucharist, and Confirmation through their home parishes.
Our Religion classes provide students with many opportunities to grow in their relationship with Christ. Each class enjoys monthly visits from Fr. Alan and Fr. Peter with lively enriching question-and-answer sessions. Advent and Lent are special seasons filled with opportunities to deepen our Faith life such as Advent prayers and surprises, Stations of the Cross, and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.
Our students develop their love of God and practice compassion and respect for ourselves and others by participating in various service opportunities for our school and community. Our students support Cedarcrest Center for Children with Disabilities, nursing homes, animal shelters, and other local outreach programs. Our foundation for service is a respect for all life: “God created mankind in his image; in the image of God he created them.” (Genesis 1:27)
